The Climate Action Reserve has published its U.S. and Canada Biochar Protocol that guides how to quantify, monitor, report, and verify climate benefits from the production and use of biochar. The Protocol received board approval last week following the public comment period which concluded in December 2023.

Mangrove Systems is actively working to support biochar project developers to onboard and operationalize this new protocol, including Pacific Biochar, whose founder Josiah Hunt has been actively involved in guiding the development of the Protocol as a member of the CAR working group.

If you are registering a biochar project with this new protocol and are looking to operationalize MRV and inventory management, please reach out to our team.
