A Healthier Earth (AHE) and Mangrove Systems have partnered to deliver the world's first integrated carbon removal portfolio for the data centre sector. By combining AHE's infrastructure-grade biochar production and governance framework with Mangrove's digital MRV platform, this partnership ensures every tonne of carbon removed is automatically measured, verified, and certified, making high-integrity carbon removal credible and scalable for institutional buyers.
AHE is the climate-tech R&D subsidiary of Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC), delivering environmental projects through science, systems thinking, and practical execution. It focuses on three interconnected challenges: removing carbon from the atmosphere, decarbonising digital infrastructure, and helping communities adapt to the impacts of climate change.
With over 1GW of capacity live or under development, Pure DC serves some of the world's largest technology companies and is committed to reducing the environmental impact of digital infrastructure.
The pillar of AHE's production capability is its landmark £24 million PureBiochar facility in Royal Wootton Bassett, Wiltshire. At full capacity, the facility will produce 11,500 tonnes of biochar annually, permanently removing up to 18,500 tonnes of CO₂ per year. That’s the annual emissions equivalent of nearly 6,000 homes in the UK. At full capacity the Wiltshire facility will be the UK's largest biochar carbon removal site and is designed to meet European Biochar Certificate (EBC) standards.
Carbon removal buyers face a structural problem. Accessing meaningful volumes of high-integrity credits has meant navigating a fragmented landscape of individually governed projects, each with its own project design, data standards, and verification process. For institutional buyers requiring credible, high-volume, and long-term offtake commitments, this is not a workable model.
AHE's portfolio of biochar producers is designed to change that equation, but making it work requires something the market has lacked: a single, rigorous data layer that can operate across every project in the portfolio, automate the evidence trail that registries and verification bodies require, and give buyers the transparency they need to trust what they are buying.
Mangrove has been selected as AHE's digital MRV partner (dMRV) responsible for ensuring that every tonne of carbon removed through the platform is measured, quantified, and verified to the standard that Isometric and institutional buyers demand.
Here’s a breakdown of how it works:
Rather than relying on manual uploads and spreadsheet-based reporting, Mangrove's platform ingests operational data directly from project sites and runs it through configurable quantification models aligned to the Isometric Standard and Biochar Protocol. This eliminates the manual bottlenecks and risk of human error that slows down credit issuance. Mangrove turns raw production data into audit-ready outputs.
AHE's portfolio spans multiple projects under a single governance framework. Mangrove's software is purpose-built for this kind of multi-site operation by centralising data across the entire portfolio, applying consistent standards to every project, and producing a unified reporting view for the registry. What might otherwise require separate data management processes for each project is consolidated into one platform with an aggregated view for AHE (as the portfolio manager) and their buyers.
Verification is only as strong as the evidence behind it. Mangrove automatically generates the supporting documentation that verification bodies require. From transport logs and route maps to feedstock provenance records, the platform reduces the burden on project teams and ensures nothing falls through the cracks ahead of a verification cycle.
Mangrove holds the first direct API connection to Isometric's Certify portal. Data and evidence flow directly from Mangrove into the registry to remove the manual handoff that typically introduces delays between monitoring, verification, and credit issuance. For a platform operating at AHE's scale, this seamless registry connection is essential.
Quality Assurance Before Verification
Before any data reaches a verification body, Mangrove's platform runs automated quality assurance checks. It flags anomalous data points, missing files, and mismatched data points from evidence files, raising potential issues early. This substantially reduces the back-and-forth that extends verification timelines, and gives AHE's team confidence that submissions are complete before they go out the door, reducing corrective actions and lengthy verification periods.
For AHE, selecting a dMRV partner was a foundational decision, and the credibility of their model depends on the quality of the data behind every credit it delivers.
"We designed this model to deliver carbon removal that buyers can rely on at scale, and that starts with the data. Mangrove provides us with the data management tools required across our entire portfolio, so as we add projects, the rigour behind every credit stays consistent." — Alastair Collier, Chief R&D Officer, A Healthier Earth
The timing of this partnership also reflects a broader shift. The data centre sector sits at a unique intersection of surging demand and intensifying climate scrutiny, and it's a dynamic Mangrove knows firsthand. The platform relies on AI to automate quantification, evidence generation, and verification review, which means it operates within the same compute-driven economy that is accelerating data centre growth. Pure DC has recognised that this position carries both responsibility and opportunity. By making carbon removal a structural part of how data storage is built and operated, AHE is setting a standard for the sector.
As the PureBiochar facility ramps toward full capacity and new projects join AHE's portfolio, the data infrastructure connecting production to certification is already in place. Every additional tonne of biochar will flow through the same automated pipeline: measured at the source, quality-checked before verification, and submitted directly to Isometric for credit issuance. For buyers, that means a growing supply of high-integrity credits with no compromise in the rigour behind them.
For Mangrove, this partnership is a natural extension of our mission to make carbon removal credible, scalable, and commercially viable. AHE is proving that carbon removal can be delivered with the same governance, consistency, and accountability that institutional buyers expect from any other infrastructure investment, and we're proud to provide the data layer that makes it possible.
